For the hiker and lover of wild nature, the area of East & Southeast Kea is included in the European NATURA 2000 network, as a place of supreme environmental significance. Within this area, there are Vallonea oaks, herbs and rare indigenous plants, such as mandrakes and hemlock. One will be walking among the oak trees, wild orchids, buttercups, lichens, irises, wild roses, hyacinths, wild gladioli and wild mushrooms which grow in abundance in the most fertile inland areas, especially in spring and fall. Small animals like ferrets and hares, often appear in the open and birds such as hawks and eagles can be seen in the sky The island has a wide network of walking trails, ideal for nature lovers and hikers.
